DeSmet, SD

Mural 32/50 for the #50in50project is complete here in DeSmet! So grateful to have connected with Visit De Smet & The Ingalls Homestead to make this happen in such a short period of time!
DeSmet, South Dakota - Population : 1,037
Surrounded by breathtaking prairie & wildlife. Some of you know the name DeSmet because it's the location of Laura Ingalls childhood home & the backdrop to quiet a few of her stories. The town is filled with history from the incredible author, but also the community and people who have shaped it into what it is now

Larimore, ND

I had the pleasure of creating this mural for the Avalon Theater in Larimore, ND. Bringing to life a piece that honored the Sickle Brothers, who's generosity in life continues to benefit Larimore even now. The goal of the mural design is to capture the small town of Larimore, the community that lives there, and the brothers who have left an enormous legacy.
"Floyd, and his brother Lloyd, were known as the Sickles Brothers through the region. They were born on march 10, 1917, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, the sons of Earl and Leora Mclane Sickles. They served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Royal Canadian Army, and the United States Army. Both men were professional actors as well as being involved in myriad business pursuits. Floyd (Earl) moved to Larimore with his brother about 35 years ago. Among their pursuits was the realization of seeing the theater "come to Larimore:. They restored the old Avalon theater, which was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1991, and saw their dream come true as the theater took hold in the community. The brothers had been summer stock producers, directors, stage technicians and stage managers through the United States prior to moving to Larimore. They were both gregarious and outgoing, yet quiet and disciplined. This is best explained by a close friend Lee Barnum who stated, "Theater is disciplined. they would get their ideas across." The Sickles brothers were recognized by the North Dakota Community Theater Association and Governor George Sinner for their contributions to theater in Noth Dakota. They served on the board of directors of the North Dakota Community Theater Association, as well as serving as permanent members of the Larimore Community Entertainers. Though a part of Larimore has departed into history with the passing of the second half of the Sickles Brothers, their legacy will live on in Larimore in the form of the Avalon Theater. It is a legacy to the Sickles; love of the stage, their gift to a community they felt had a special appreciation for music, theater, and quality entertainment." - Floyde Earl Sickle Memorial

I finished the final brush strokes 09/28/2022 on mural #6 of the #50in50project ! I am in love with the design we came up with & I can say with certainty that Jordan and I are in love with Gardnerville, NV.
Gardnerville, there are no words to explain how amazing this has been! But I'm going to try anyway.
This has been 9days start-finish. Starting with an incredible first meeting with Jen Nalder (Jen, you're AWESOME!) walking around downtown and learning so much about the history of this area. That first meeting inspired everything from design to last brush strokes & without Jen Nalder and Geoff Lacost from @mainstreetgardnerville.... this piece wouldn't have been possible!
When I arrived, the structure was still being built..... I blinked and it was completed and primmed for me to begin! Thank you to Eric Matus, Geoff, Carson Valley Groundwork, Curtis and Sons, and Erik Nilssen for all of your hard work! Without you this piece literally could not have been completed!
Massive thank you to everyone here in Gardnerville for being so kind and welcoming! Thank you to the amazing owners of The Historian Inn for sponsoring our first few nights! After 40hrs on the road we needed that rest and your hospitality! We are so grateful.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! This is not meant to sound like a shout-out post, but it didn't feel right to post the final photos without including the people who really made it happen.
I have felt from the beginning of this project that the relationships and communities were going to be the biggest wow-factor for me, and I am turning out to be right. Beyond what I thought originally! I am so blessed to be able to share my work in this way and to get to know all of you!
P.S. Thank you to my aunt LeAnna for nominating Gardnerville! It started with you!!!
